The River Vantaa
The watercourse of the River Vantaa is situated on a densey populated area in southern Finland. The area of the catchment area is 1680 km² and it reaches the area of 14 municipalities. In this area there are about 1000000 people, 1/5 of all Finnish population. The density of the population is 10 times bigger than the density of the population of Finland. The River Vantaa begins at Hausjärvi and it's length is 99,1 km. The municipalities of the catchment area are: Helsinki, Vantaa, Tuusula, Nurmijärvi, Hyvinkää, Riihimäki Hausjärvi, Loppi, Mäntsälä, Vihti Järvenp„„, Kerava, Sipoo and Espoo The condition of watercourse is getting better. Because of population, agriculture and industry the quality of watercourse has gone bad for decades. Because of great investments for waterprotection and more effective clening methods the condition of water has risen. The loading of watercourse has diminished when the wastewater of over 100000 people are nowdays led to be cleaned outside of the watercourse. The phosphorous discharges of communities have diminished from the beginning of 1970's. The loading of communities and agriculture is still damaging the River Vantaa and that's why waterprotecting has to be continued.
